Planning Commission
The Lakefield Township Planning Commission consists of five members, including one representative from the Township Board and four appointed community members. This commission plays a vital role in shaping the future development and land use of our township.
Commission Structure

Primary Responsibilities
The Planning Commission's duties include:
- Developing and maintaining the Township Master Plan
- Reviewing zoning ordinance amendments
- Making recommendations on rezoning requests
- Reviewing site plans for new developments
- Conducting public hearings on planning and zoning matters
- Studying current land use trends
- Planning for future community needs
- Making recommendations to the Township Board on planning issues
Meetings
Planning Commission meetings are open to the public, and community participation is encouraged. Meeting dates, times, and locations are posted at the Township Hall and on the township website as required by law.
Public Hearings
The Planning Commission conducts public hearings when required for:
- Proposed zoning changes
- Special land use permits
- Amendments to the zoning ordinance
- Other planning matters requiring public input
Appointment Process
Community members interested in serving on the Planning Commission must:
- Be residents of Lakefield Township
- Be appointed by the Township Board
- Commit to a four-year term
- Complete required training
