Board of Review
The Lakefield Township Board of Review consists of three regular members and one alternate member, each appointed by the Township Board to serve two-year terms. This independent body plays a crucial role in our property assessment process.
Purpose and Responsibilities
The Board of Review's primary responsibilities include:
- Reviewing property assessments to ensure accuracy and fairness
- Hearing and deciding assessment appeals from property owners
- Correcting clerical errors and mutual mistakes of fact
- Reviewing hardship exemption applications
- Ensuring compliance with Michigan Property Tax Law
Meeting Schedule
The Board of Review meets three times annually:
- March: Main assessment appeal hearing
- July: Summer appeal hearing
- December: Winter appeal hearing
Specific meeting dates, times, and locations are posted at the Township Hall and on the township website as required by law.
Property Assessment Appeals
Property owners may appeal their assessments during the March Board of Review. To appeal:
- Attend a meeting during the designated session
- Bring supporting documentation
- Present facts supporting your appeal
- Written appeals are accepted under certain circumstances as provided by law

Appointment Process
Members are appointed by the Lakefield Township Board and must:
- Be qualified electors of Lakefield Township
- Own property in the township
- Complete required training
- Serve two-year terms
